Meet the Competitors: Michael Hammond

Michael Hammond brings sub 4:00 credentials to Raleigh on August 1st. He was a two-time ACC Indoor Mile champion and multiple time All American while at Virginia Tech. He now runs with Furman Elite and won the 2014 Blue Shoes Mile in a PR of 3:57.70.

5 Things About Me: Michael Hammond

1. I ran collegiately for Virginia Tech where I majored in economics and math.

2. Training, for me, is a means to an end. I’m in it for the competition. Truth be told, I’d rather go for a hike than a run.

3. I have a goal of reaching the highest elevation point of each U.S. state. I also want to climb Everest.

4. I was born in Houston, TX, and even though I moved away in 2nd grade, I consider it my hometown. Several generations of my family have lived there. Rockets/Astros/Texans fan.

5. I am very interested in the autism spectrum- I’ve been an active member of Autism Speaks for several years now.
