Press Release: USATF NC Open Mile State Championship added to 2016 Sir Walter Miler

June 2, 2016 – Raleigh, North Carolina – The “Summer of Miles” continues. In addition to the Men’s and Women’s Elite Mile Races at the 2016 Sir Walter, Sir Walter Running is proud to announce a partnership with USA Track & Field – North Carolina to host the State Open Mile Championship for Men and Women. The popular Run Club Mile Relay will also return in 2016 (watch the 2015 race here).

These two State Championship races will kick off the night at Meredith College on Sir Walter Miler’s traditional first Friday date, August 5, 2016, at Meredith College. 16 Men and Women will be allowed to compete in this race. To enter, athletes can submit their best mile (or 1500 meters) time from 2016 to be considered. 1500 meter times will be adjusted accordingly (by factor of 1.08). The qualifying window is July 15, 2015 to July 15, 2016. Eligible races are any indoor or outdoor track time (including Pop Up Miles), and USATF certified road miles (including the Raleigh RunDown Downhill Mile, which Sir Walter Running is producing on June 17th, 2016). The top 15 mile/1500 times will be offered spots in the races, along with the winners of the Raleigh RunDown, who will gain automatic entry. The Sir Walter Miler once again be broadcast live on FloTrack.org Sir Walter Running’s local Pop Up Miles series starts Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Interested athletes will be informed of where the event will be held each week (on the Saturday before), by signing up for the Sir Walter Running Email List. In addition to the local Pop Up Miles, the Asheville Running Collective will be hosting a satellite event on June 18th.
