5 Things About Me: Sam Gilman

  1. I was born and raised in Hilton Head Island, SC just a 3-4 hour drive away from North Carolina which is where I would always travel to big running events like footlocker south, and footlocker NXR.
  2. For College, I attended the United States Air Force Academy In Colorado Springs, CO where I studied Business Management and competed on the cross country and track team. I will always be grateful for the lifelong friends I made and experiences I gained during my time as a cadet at USAFA.
  3. I am currently living and working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton Ohio as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force. When I am not working I am getting in miles and trying to keep my running dream alive!
  4. I am what some people call a “Coffee Snob” and have my own espresso machine and coffee grinder that makes the best coffee in Ohio.
  5. I am a massive Cincinnati sports fan and when able am at a Reds baseball or Bengals football game.

5 Fast Questions

  1. What is your go-to training shoe? My go to trainers are the New Balance 1080’s. They are great for everyday miles but also have enough zip in them to do some interval work.
  2. What’s your favorite cross training activity? There is no such thing as a “favorite cross training activity”. cross training is the worst! But if I am forced to not run, I would do some aqua jogging in the pool.
  3. What’s a show, movie, or podcast that everyone should check out? A show that everyone should watch is Severance. There is only 1 season but man is it a great show. Watch the first episode and tell me I am wrong.
  4. If I weren’t a runner, I’d mostly likely be…I would be a pilot in the Air Force. I think the lifestyle fits me and I would have applied for pilot school out of USAFA, but I think trying to run faster than you ever have before is the life for me.
  5. Do you have any connections to Raleigh and/or North Carolina? I grew up in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and would always travel to Raleigh and Charlotte for big cross country races. Although South Carolina may be the best state in the US…. North Carolina takes a close second!
