Press Release: Final fields and new incentives set for 2017 Sir Walter Miler
Final fields and new incentives set for 2017 Sir Walter Miler
August 3, 2017 – Raleigh, NC – Sir Walter Running is excited to announce the final Elite fields for the 2017 Sir Walter Miler. The event returns in its fourth year to its standard first Friday night spot on August 4, 2017 at the Meredith College Track. The 2017 event will again feature Elite Men’s and Women’s Mile races, a local Run Club 4×400 meter Relay, and the Citius Mag presents the Raleigh Denim Mile. The Sir Walter Miler is free and open to the public, and will again be broadcast live internationally on FloTrack.org
The 2017 Sir Walter Miler will include the deepest prize money to date with $5100 in guaranteed money plus $15,000 in bonus incentives ($12,000 new incentives), that include and improved Stiner State Record Bonus ($1000), an improved first time sub 4:00/4:30 bonus ($250), a personal record bonus ($250), a Moonshot-style Royal Charter Challenge, which would reward a performance midway between the American Record, and the current Sir Walter Miler Meet Record. Those times will be 4:22.00 for Women and 3:51.10 for Men, and will pay $3000 to the first athlete to best that mark. These added bonuses have been possible due to a generous contribution from Dr. Mark Graham and Waverly Hematology Onconology to support and promote local cancer charities: Stomp the Monster (Paired with the Men’s race), a Cary-based charity which provides support for patients and families having financial need because of their cancer; and The Kay Yow Cancer Fund (Paired with the Women’s race), a Raleigh-based charity which supports meritorious research into women’s cancers at several of the nation’s top Cancer Centers.
