Meet the Competitors: Craig Forys
Craig Forys | @craigforys | Men’s Mile
Craig will be coming into the Sir Walter Miler hot off a 8:24.09 PR in the Steeplechase from Luzern, Switzerland. He is one of our many Foot Locker Nationals alums, and finished second overall in 2006. He was a multiple time All-American at Michigan and now trains with Coach Robert Gary and Furman Elite in Greenville, South Carolina.
5 Things About Me: Craig Forys
I went to University of Michigan but am a Georgia “Dawgs” fan.
My favorite place to spend time is at my friend Ryan’s beach house in Belmar, New Jersey. I’ll take a week there over just about any other vacation!
To prolong the start of a run when I am tired, I like to pick a sign or a post and throw rocks at it until I hit it. Only then can the run begin.
I have a tie for best running moments. The first is when I won the BIG 10 Championship steeplechase and qualified for the Olympic Trials. The second is when my brother Matt and I went to Scotland for the Great Edinburgh XC challenge and got to wear the USA singlet for the first time. The USA men won the challenge, besting Europe and Great Britain.
I ran the mile once in 2009 and then took a 5 year hiatus from the event. This winter I ended that streak with a 4:01 at Virginia Tech. What is a Hokie anyway?
