2019 Initial Sir Walter Miler Elite Men’s Field Announced
July 18, 2019 – Raleigh, North Carolina – After announcing the initial Women’s Elite Field on Tuesday, Sir Walter Running is excited to announce the initial Men’s Elite Field for the 2019 Sir Walter Miler, which will be held Friday, August 2, 2019 at Meredith College. Elite Men’s Coordinator, Stephen Furst, stopped by the Summer of Miles podcast to chat about the field on Wedneday.
“This year’s initial field is highlighted by up and comers, looking to make the jump to the next level; many of whom are in their first or second year out of college. They’re all full of energy with huge goals,” said Furst. “We also have some big stars intererested, but won’t know if they are available until after the USATF Outdoor Championships next week. So stay tuned for some exciting announcements in the days leading up to the race!”
Co-Race Founder Sandy Roberts shared Fursts sentiment, as the event was founded on the idea of giving him a shot at the sub 4:00 mile in 2013 with the Sandman Mile. Now six years later, the event has grown far beyond its initial goal.
“Once again, the anticipation for this event is palpable! With stellar Men’s and Women’s fields, along with some new improvements to the fan experience, we continue to build each year, while being as authentic to our year one mission as ever,” said Roberts.
The 2019 Sir Walter Miler weekend will again consist of events from Thursday through Saturday, starting with the “Adopt a Runner” program for local high school teams, as well as the “Eat with the Pros” event on Thursday. On Friday, the Pre and Post Party will again take place at Raleigh Brewing Company, where special beer sales will go towards the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Sir Walter Miler be right across the street at Meredith College. In addition to the Elite Miles, the Run Club 4×400 Meter Relays are scheduled, as well as the debut of the Croc-O-Mile, an event where competitors will run their fastest mile in Crocs. Finishing the weekend will be the “Rise and Run with the Pros” at Umstead Park on Saturday Morning.
The event is Free for the public to attend, and will be broadcast live on FloTrack.
